All about me...
Hello to you... thank you for visitng my website... :D
I am Paul Ong and I am a teacher by profession. I am currently taking up courses at the University of Manitoba and will be graduating from 2 Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Education (PBDEs) this May 2015, and October 2015 respectively. My PBDE is focused on Mathematics, Statistics, Inclusive and Special Education and some courses under Guidance and Counseling. At the same time, I am working as a research assistant in order to prepare myself for my Masters program in Education for Well Being and Sustainability this September 2015. I have skills in academic research and have published a few of my works in Education, and Psychology Journals in Asia.
My experiences in the last two years as a teacher in Red Sucker Lake School, teaching the Science curriculum for high school and mature education, elective courses like Home Economics, Career Development, Family Studies, Arts, and Retailing, have played a major role in shaping my worldview. Last year, one of my students and I were able to join the National Science Fair (Canada- Wide Science Fair) in Windsor, Ontario as the project I did with them was selected as a finalist to represent Manitoba. It brought a big impact to Red Sucker Lake as it was their first time ever to join a Science Fair here in Winnipeg, We did so well that we were selected to represent on the national level, and students from this school now continue to participate in Science Fairs here in the city. In my 2 years in Red Sucker Lake, I was also able to share my Asian culture by cooking and preparing food for the community through Chinese Food Take Out, and Bakery. Prior to teaching in Red Sucker Lake, I have had the experience of teaching pre-school, kindergarten, and school age children. I am currently a part time high school teacher for Wapaskwa Virtual Collegiate with MFNERC (Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre) where we teach courses through distance education to students located in various first nations in Manitoba and across Canada. Courses that I have taught through distance education include Biology 30S, Career Development 21G, and Introduction to Pre-Calculus (Grade 10). Aside from my distance education course, I volunteer my time and co-teach in a grade 3 classroom daily to make sure I do not lose touch with the real classroom environment.
My extracurricular activities include singing/ performing and culinary arts. I was part of Canada’s Got Talent in 2012; and was selected as the Hometown Hero for Manitoba featured in a Tim Hortons commercial after representing Winnipeg. Aside from these, I also perform and volunteer to share my gifts for the Filipino, Chinese and other Canadian communities. I am multilingual and very fluent in English, Chinese Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Filipino (Tagalog). I am also currently taking French classes with University of Saint Boniface with the desire to expand my linguistic skills.
Recently, I auditioned for the 2015 World Championship of Performing Arts and I'm proud to say that I was accepted as a member of TEAM CANADA to compete in the Vocal Category in Long Beach, California in July 2015. The WCOPA (World Championship of Performing Arts) is a "TALENT OLYMPICS" for aspiring performers and entertainers where contestants compete for the gold medal. Over 40 countries participate in this competition in many categories, like vocal, dance, instrumental, acting, and modeling. Indeed, it is an honor and privilege to represent TEAM CANADA. However, taking part in this competition will incur costs that I would not be able to afford alone. It is a rare opportunity to be part of such a huge event such as this and I am really excited to compete. I am appealing for your assistance through sponsorships or ticket purchases to our upcoming fundraising show to help me participate in this competition. We already have a few sponsors, but together your assistance, the sponsorships will cover the registration fee, airfare and accommodation for 10 days duration of this event. A sponsorship package has been attached in this letter. I really hope that we can count on your support, because I really look forward to embark on this endeavor as it is such a great opportunity for me to once again represent our country, and our province as I previously did when I joined Canada's Got Talent and was chose to be the hometown hero for Manitoba featured in a Tim Hortons commercial.
